ScanMyFridge — Privacy Policy

1. Overview

ScanMyFridge ("the App") helps you discover recipes by photographing your fridge. We take your privacy seriously and collect the minimum data necessary to provide our service.

2. Information We Collect

• Photos you take or select: When you scan your fridge, the photo is sent to our backend server for AI-powered ingredient detection. Photos are processed in real-time and are not stored on our servers after processing is complete.
• Pantry items & preferences: Your pantry staples and dietary preferences are stored locally on your device only using SharedPreferences. They are never sent to our servers except as part of a recipe request (as plain text, not associated with any account).
• Saved recipes & shopping lists: Stored locally on your device only.
• Language preference: Stored locally on your device only.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not require an account or login.
• We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personal identifiers.
• We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses Google's Gemini API (via our backend server) to analyze fridge photos and generate recipe suggestions. Photos are sent to Google for processing and are subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Google states that Gemini API data is not used to train their models.

5. Data Storage & Security

• All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.
• Photos are transmitted securely and discarded immediately after analysis.
• All user preferences are stored locally on your device and never leave it.

6. Camera & Photo Library

The App requests access to your camera and photo library solely to let you photograph or select a picture of your fridge contents. These permissions are only used when you initiate a scan. You can revoke access at any time in your device's Settings.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
